If I ask all of you what happened on the 29th of July of 2007, will you know the answer? Possibly not… but whether we know or don’t know what happened, it’s clearly a date to remember: the launching of the first IPhone, a milestone in the mobile market. Why? Simply because it was the first Apple cell phone, with a touch screen, vanguardian design, zoom in images and a large etcetera that made a great impact among the geek world.
It was from that particular moment when the competitors began to fear for their incomes, given the tremendous effect that the IPhone had (and still has) among users. With Android being released as a main rival, things started to change. We are no longer talking about having a Sony Ericson, a Nokia or a LG; we talk about Android, iOS, and Symbian… we don’t care about the brand that much, but about the operating system: what does it offer? And we also take for granted the features that each OS it’s supposed to have. Previously, we differentiated our devices by the firm, now the first and main decision is which OS do we prefer and only after to choose the brand…. or at least that’s the way we see it.
Each operating system has its market share, its advantages regarding others and the things that make them unique… but iOS and Android are the ones that play the leading roles in this war… if you don’t know how to choose between the two of them, we’ll explain 8 advantages in favor of Android, of course, so you can make up your mind.
Automation
In the market, we’re offered powerful apps that provide our Android with the ability to decide by itself: decrease the screen brightness, activate the wi-fi, turn off the GPS or the data connection… always depending on our situation, the time of the day or the battery remaining, so we can stop worrying about the phone, as it will overtake our moves.
Widgets
If there’s something that iPhone users must miss, it has to be the widgets: those little apps that saves us time. For example, if we want to listen to a song, we don’t need to look for the music player, open it and play the song: with a simple widget in our desktop, we just need to press the play button!
Battery and storage
There’s not much to say about this topic, actually. It’s true that iPhone mobiles have a great storage capacity, but what happens if we run out of space? Almost every Android, besides having an inner storage, include slots for microSD cards. The same goes for the battery supplies. IPhone batteries are one-piece and need to be brought to a technical service in order to change it. Android batteries, on the other hand, are removable and can be changed by average users.
Web Market
In our opinion, the market is one of the biggest claims: it’s simply wonderful. You can manage all your apps from the website, install them, and check the ones you’ve already installed…. The only thing that’s missing is the possibility of uninstalling the apps directly from the website, but we’re pretty sure it won’t be long until we’re able to do that. In the Apple Store, on the other hand, the only thing we can do is to browse through the apps and buy them, but on no account are we able to install them from the Store.
ROM
The large community of developers behind Android gives us the chance of witnessing the great performance of our device, thanks to the ROMs created by them. ROMs allow us to change the interface, make our terminal quicker, and customize it and the possibility of including further functions such as radio FM….they make Android use even easier.
Flash
Not much to comment about this topic either… just let me say it: “if you’ve got flash in your smartphone you have an Android… if you don’t… you have an iPhone” ;) There’s more and more web pages every day that require flash, so if our device doesn’t support it, there will be a great amount of web pages which we won’t be able to see.
Integration
We all know that Google is not only the ultimate search engine, but also email service, shared docs, YouTube, maps, voice…and of course Android. All Google’s experience came down to mobile apps and they’re a constant feature in a lot of platforms. It’s obvious, though, that if we compare iPhone/Blackberry/Nokia apps with the Android ones, we’ll find out that their performances are different. In our opinion, Android using is much better than the others.
